Chautauqua Institution Scholarships

PhotoESU Chautauqua Scholarships are open to all qualified teachers. The award covers the cost of attendance at the Chatauqua Institution and includes lectures, classes, board, lodging, and entertainment for up to six weeks’ stay. Chautauqua is situated on the west side of the 20-mile long Lake Chautauqua, about 80 miles south of Buffalo in Upper New York State. The Chautauqua Institution generously offers two scholarships for British teachers to study for two to six weeks at the Chautauqua Summer School. The Summer Session, held by Syracuse University at the Institution, offers a wide variety of courses, usually in the following fields: Art (painting, ceramics and sculpture); Music Education; Literature; International Relations. Books and equipment are freely available; there is an opera, play or concert almost every evening, and in addition gifted young musicians may receive individual tuition and play in the students’ orchestra. Daily public lectures deal with current political, economic and sociological issues. The emphasis at the Summer School is markedly cultural and is of value to those teachers who have particular interests in music, art, drama or crafts.
