Debate Academy
The ESU’s annual summer camp provides intensive and competition-focussed debate training to individual students. Held at Oakham School in Rutland in July, it brings together approximately 120 students with more than 30 expert faculty, drawn from successful university debaters and schools coaches. Attending sessions tailored for groups of different experience and ability, participants take part in five assessed debates, receive workshops on aspects of debate such as proposition and opposition strategy, points of information, summaries and style, and attend lectures on content areas like economics, law, international relations and science. The Academy is open to debaters aged between 14 and 18, of any level of experience from complete beginners to national finalists. Travel bursaries and full and partial fee scholarships are available to offset the costs of attending.
