Mentoring
The ESU offers university students the opportunity to act as debate mentors at school workshops, both on a Road Show of after-school sessions each September and throughout the year on an occasional basis. Mentors are paid for their time and also reimbursed for travel and subsistence. The ESU also asks experienced debaters to offer to help judge regional rounds of the ESU Schools Mace, the national debating championship. Although unpaid, some travel costs can be paid to students acting as adjudicators. Making a contribution to the ESU’s educational programmes in the UK is an advantage when applying for membership of the ESU Speech and Debate Squad.
